President Joe Biden’s Covid-19 Response Team is holding a press conference Monday on the coronavirus pandemic that infected more than 28 million Americans and killed at least 525,035 people in just over a year.

On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a study that found that the relaxation of mask mandates and the reopening of restaurants have led to an increase in Covid-19 cases and deaths. The study found that mask requirements were associated with a decrease in the daily growth rate of Covid-19 cases and deaths by more than 1 percentage point 20 days after they were implemented.

Senior U.S. health officials including the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Dr. Rochelle Walensky, warn against rolling back public health measures too soon. They say it could reverse the current downtrend in infections and delay the nation’s recovery from the pandemic.
