If you do decide to watch Chocolate (and you should), ignore the film’s incoherent first half hour. All you need to know is this: Zen is a dumb teenage girl with an autism-like disorder who grew up watching Bruce Lee films. When her family is threatened by yakuza villains, Zen goes nuts after collecting superhuman martial arts from all the movies she has seen.
Yanin “Jeeja” Vismistananda is a perfect action movie star, and the fighting scenes with no CGI, no cables and no bullshit are breathtaking in their audacity and athleticism. Those kinds of scenes that would be impossible to shoot in the United States because insurance companies would never sign off the stunts. If you have a strong stomach, stick with the post-movie blooper role of stunts-goe-crooked. Ouch.
